Gabriel was looking to enhance his rooftop area and add another structure around a concrete block raised planter that was already there. It was important that stepped access was incorporated in the design so Gabriel could still reach the original planter for tendering.

Gabriel’s rooftop area was tiled with durable flooring with an existing rectangular raised planter built into the back corner of the space. This planter was very tall and not aesthetically pleasing due to its cream-coloured render. To soften the area and add a more natural tone to the rooftop space, the idea was to wrap around another to create a two-tiered planting area.
Our L-shaped planter with bespoke steps added to each end provided the perfect solution to allow for access to the original raised bed.
In order to create a bespoke structure, Gabriel opted to use our Free Design Service. Working closely with our team, an L-shaped structure was created using our computer modeling software. The raised bed design included a set of steps at either end which would allow Gabriel to access the initial planter which sits higher up.
The solid tiled flooring offered a perfectly level base allowing for the planter to be built directly onto it, without the need to prepare the ground.
Due to the rooftop floor being solid tiles, very little preparation was required to the area. After washing down the slabs, Gabriel started building his new WoodBlocX planter.
Following his kit’s step-by-step colour coordinated instructions,Gabriel has no problems putting the timber BlocX together using our plastic dowels and just like that… in an afternoon, the raised bed was built!
Due to the size of the L-shape design, internal buttresses were added to improve the stability of the planter. When building WoodBlocX on hard ground types such as tiles, patios or concrete, we provide angle floor brackets to attach your structure safely to the ground.
The completed bespoke L-shape design frames the existing raised bed perfectly, adding another dimension to the rooftop space – the planter has been finished off using our modern capping style. The additional raised bed not only creates a two-tier effect, it also gives Gabriel additional planting space to grow flowers, vegetables or herbs. The options are endless!
Our modular timber system perfectly fits around the existing planter without taking up too much valuable outdoor space. The design has created Gabriel unique stepped access to continue watering and tending to plants in the original planter. We’re sure this L-shaped design will bring the rooftop area to life and be a centerpiece to enjoy for many years to come!
